Story of a young Entrepreneur

Today I was just browsing internet when unintentionally I came across a video of a person named Varun Agarwal. Varun Agarwal.. I thought of this name for a while and know that I had never heard of him before but the number of people who have viewed this video persuaded me to check it once. And I am glad I did.. I gotta know about a young entrepreneur from India who really makes it big. His real life story must have encouraged a lot of young minds to chase their dreams.

Varun Agarwal is a first-generation entrepreneur, film maker and author. He was born on December 6, 1986. He is  the author of a book How I Braved Anu Aunty and Co-Founded A Million Dollar Company.  He co-founded Alma Mater and two other companies – Reticular and Last Minute Films.

Alma Mater : make merchandise for students of schools and colleges. http://www.almamaterstore.in/
Reticular : A social media marketing company
Last minute Films: A film production house.

During his engineering college days in Bangalore, he started film-making and founded ‘Last Minute Films‘ at the age of 19. After finishing his graduation he briefly worked as a director for Phat Phish Films and at the young age of 21 he directed Bollywood Superstars Priety Zinta and AR Rahman in music videos. At 23, he co-founded his second business venture, Alma Mater, with his friend Rohn Malhotra. Alma Mater has successfully partnered with educational institutions across India in being able to make and supply customized sweatshirts to alumni. It is now India’s largest company for providing merchandise to students of schools and colleges. Almamater is a unique idea to let children flaunt their customized sweatshirts of college and make it a part of their everyday lives. (It was just an idea but when he and his team started working on it, it became a successful reality… :)) Besides these two companies he also co-founded Reticular. Varun has been featured on the cover of India Today as well as on the CNBC Young Turks Show.

Varun Agarwal believes in the philosophy of “DON’T THINK” because many a times when we start to think about the consequences of the things we want to do, we dread doing them.

Don’t think too much you’ll create a problem that wasn’t even there in the first place – Unknown

This story is a real life example that one good idea can change your life, when you work to make it real. Every one of us must have tasted failure in our lifetime but rather than being broken up or giving up, just give your 100% to whatever you do. Too much thinking about what will happen if I do this, what will I have to risk, what will be the consequences.. all this ends up in making us thoughtful whether to do that task or not. The simple rule is rather than thinking too much, start working on the things that interest you. Life is too short to live on other’s terms, rather make your own goals and achieve them.

This story was a good reminder of the belief: “When you want somethingall the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it”- Paulo Coelho
